Excitement is circulated in the air throughout the course of the second term. Our annual sports meet occurs in March at the Elquemedo T. Willett Park. At the Charlestown Primary School, the students are placed on three main houses of colour namely Red, Green and Blue.

Daily intensive training, prepare the selected athletes representing each team for the day dubbed “Sports Day”. The teams encourage themselves with stimulating songs and chants composed by teachers and students.

The teams participate in several races such as 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m. Other races include the relays, (which are the climax of the day) and fun races like lime and spoon, lime and bucket and sack race.

The athletes are very competitive and passionate on the tracks as they pull out all the stops to ensure that the best team wins. Prior to the sports day the student population of the school participates in what is called “Heats”. During this activity all students are afforded the opportunity to contribute to their house in similar races ran on the actual sports day, along with the much anticipated, cross country and tug of war. Parents turn out in their numbers to show support to their children in this event.

This year’s winner in both “Heats” and “Sports Day” was Blue House.  Red House placed second while Green House, last year’s champion placed third.
