WELCOME TO GRADE 6 Commitment

Hello my internet viewers,

I would like to use this forum to extend a hearty welcome to you. My name is Adonis Rivers and I have been teaching for over 5 years. It has always been my passion to be an effective teacher in the classroom. It is my belief that when parents are engaged in their children’s education, achievement level increases. Here are some helpful tips that you can use as a parent at home:

  • Ask your children what they studied in class today
  • Choose a place for home study and make sure the room is quiet during that time.
  • Set up a certain time of day that is dedicated to homework.
  • If you want your children to read their assignments, give yourself an assignment, too.
  • Increase your children's interest in homework by connecting school to everyday life.
  • Meet with your children's teachers to find out what they are learning and discuss their progress in school.
  • Praise your children for successfully completing homework.

Now here are some helpful tips for you my students.

  • Be sure to attend school regularly.
  • Set aside a specific time to do your homework and studying every day.
  • If you can't find a quiet place to focus on your homework at your house, why not head to the library? Be sure you have as little distraction as possible when studying. Avoid watching TV, talking on the phone or playing music that makes you want to dance around the living room while doing homework.
  • Keep all your notes from your classes and read them over daily, as well as your textbooks. Make note of things your teacher has said maybe it might be on your test so you can be sure to review it.

If you don’t understand don’t be afraid to ask for help. You can ask your teacher, peer or a friend.

Adonis Rivers,
Grade Six Commitment Teacher
